Ms. Terrell is a figurative painter, printmaker, and photographer, with a special interest in drawing as a foundation for visual thinking and printmaking as a vehicle for social change. Her work, which has been exhibited internationally, is based on the metaphoric nature of life experiences and often makes reference to art history. One of her prints was selected for the collection of the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. in 2014. She is credentialed in art for grades K-12 and in both Art and Humanities for California Community Colleges. Her teaching experience includes Studio Art at UCSC and UCSC Extension since 1993, Art History at De Anza, Hartnell, and Cabrillo Colleges from 1987-97, and studio practices at The Children’s Art Center and the Cultural Council’s Spectra Program. She has been teaching at Kirby since 1998, founded the Photography program, designed the darkroom, and was Art Dept. Chair for 10 years. Ms. Terrell was honored with an “Excellence in Teaching” Award from the UCSC Academic Senate Committee on Teaching in 2005 for “exemplary and inspiring teaching.”
