Ms. Olsen has been teaching at Kirby since 2006 and has headed the History Department since 2013. She is the author of twelve books, including Understanding Lord of the FliesCooking with Jane Austen, A Chronology of Women’s History, and two acclaimed encyclopedias on the historical context of literary works:  All Things Austen and All Things Shakespeare. She has been a featured speaker on 18th- and 19th-century culinary history at meetings of the Culinary Historians of Southern California and at regional and national meetings of the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA). A member of several professional historical associations, she most recently published a thoroughly revised 20th-anniversary edition of her Daily Life in Eighteenth-Century England; her forthcoming Daily Life of Women in the Progressive Era is due from ABC-CLIO in spring 2019.
