Mr. Tropp holds the unique distinction of having taught in five departments since starting at Kirby in 2013. His current teaching duties are exclusively in the Science Department, though he also loves coaching Kirby’s Ethics Bowl team. He studied Physics (and was a lead tutor) at Swarthmore College before majoring in Philosophy (with a minor in Psychology). He worked as a research assistant in Physics at both Swarthmore and UCLA and co-taught the Computer course at the Carlthorp School in Santa Monica. He did his graduate work in Philosophy at Brown University where he also taught Philosophy and Photoshop in their Summer Pre-College Program. He taught and tutored Mathematics and a variety of Science courses at the Making Waves Program in San Francisco.
Mr. Tropp pedaled from New Haven, CT, to Seattle, WA, as part of the Habitat for Humanity Bicycle Challenge (now Bike & Build) and continues to ride when he can. He is a certified White Water Rafting guide. He doesn’t get out on the trails or the water quite as often as he might like these days, but the reasons why (born in 2015 and 2018, respectively) more than make up for it.
