As the parent of two Kirby graduates, Ms. Hemmert has been an active member of the Kirby community since 2006. She has taught ESL (English as a second language) for over 20 years in the US and Japan, most notably here at Kirby, and at San Francisco State University, City College of San Francisco, the University of California, Santa Cruz, Temple University (Japan), and International Christian University (Japan).  She was a founding member of the Technology Integration Mentor Academy at OTAN (Outreach and Technical Assistance Network) in Sacramento, and she served as a technology mentor at Santa Cruz Adult School. Ms. Hemmert has authored numerous articles and five books, including four ESL textbooks. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, practicing yoga & meditation, hiking, reading, writing, and scuba diving in exotic, faraway places.
