Admissions / Tuition & Affording Kirby

A great education is an investment in your child’s future.

We encourage you to apply

If Kirby feels like a fit for your student, we invite you to apply. Please contact us if you have any questions–we are here to help. We appreciate that an independent school education is a financial commitment; one which brings lasting benefits. To ensure that Kirby School is an affordable option, we offer a Tuition Assistance Program. Details are below. Our 2019-2020 tuition is:

  • Grades 6 and 7: $29,250
  • Grades 8 through 12: $33,900

We also charge the following one-time fees:

  • Application Fee: $75
  • New student enrollment fee: $1000. This fee is waived for families receiving financial aid awards

Kirby School offers a 10% sibling tuition discount to families with two or more children enrolled at Kirby. The 10% discount will be applied to the lesser tuition of the 2nd sibling and each subsequent sibling of an enrolled Kirby student. Tuition rates are set annually by the Board of Trustees. Rates for the 2020-21 school year will be made available in January 2020.

Contact our Admissions Director, Amy Hemmert at (831) 423-0658 x 202 if you’d like assistance. Ask about our payment plans and Tuition Assistance Program. Changes to federal tax law which passed in December 2017 may now allow families who have 529 education savings plans to use those plans for K-12th grade tuition. We strongly encourage families to consult with a certified tax professional if they are interested in understanding the implications of these tax changes with regards to tuition at Kirby School.

Tuition Assistance Program

Kirby believes that diversity is essential for excellence. A diverse community enhances the learning experiences for everyone at Kirby, preparing us to collaborate and engage with thoughtfulness and respect. Kirby is committed to enrolling a socio-economic diverse community and we work individually with families to help make Kirby an affordable option through our Tuition Assistance Program.

Approximately 25% of our families receive tuition assistance and our average award is over $20,000. Last year we awarded over $1,000,000 to support the educational goals of our community.

Applicants interested in being considered for assistance must complete an application through Financial Aid for School Tuition (FAST). This third-party agency assists the Kirby Tuition Assistance Committee in evaluating applications. Applicants can file online for the 2019-2020 school year after December 1, 2018.

  • Priority Tuition Assistance Applications are those completed by February 15, 2019. Families who complete their FAST application by this date will be considered for Tuition Assistance first. In order to be considered for Priority Tuition Assistance you must complete your Admissions Application by February 1, 2019 and your Tuition Assistance Application on FAST by February 15, 2019.
  • Secondary Tuition Assistance Applications are those completed by March 8, 2019. Applications for Tuition Assistance submitted after the February 15th deadline will be evaluated based on availability of funds. To be considered, please submit your Tuition Assistance Application to FAST by March 8, 2019. You must also have completed your Admissions Application by this time.

All applicants who submit materials prior to the deadlines will be informed of Tuition Assistance awards by no later than the end of March 2019.
